One of the challenges of growing up bilingual is when words pop up in your head that you want to say in one language, but there’s no adequate translation for it in the other language. For example, as Japanese children, we are often told, “Shikari shinasai!” or “Chanto shinasai!” But, there’s not a fitting translation for these expressions in the English language.


In today’s episode we tackle some of these tough words that get lost in translation – the English word “robust” and the Japanese word “shikkari.”
