日本語は和製英語の宝庫！ということで今週は「和製英語」の第三弾。食べ物にまつわる和製英語について語り合います。
（「和製英語」とは、日本語を話す人が英語を元にして作った日本語。カナで表記されるので一見英語に見えますが、残念ながら英語としては通じない単語です、笑。）

日本語の「アイス」が食べたいという人がいたら、その人は「氷」が欲しいわけではないことは十分に想像できると思います。日本語で「アイス」と言ったら、アイスクリームやソルベ、アイスキャンディーのことですよね？でも「アイス」は実は和製英語。英語の ice は「氷」を指すので、スイーツの「アイス」が欲しい時は英語では ice cream、sorbets、popsicle と言わないと「氷」が出てきてしまいます、笑！
If a Japanese speaker asks for ice, there’s a good chance they aren’t talking about frozen water. Ice (pronounced aisu) is wasei-eigo for frozen treats such as ice cream, sorbets, and popsicles. It’s just one of many that can cause confusion!
