Everyone gets scared sometimes. Whether you’re starting something new, speaking up for yourself, or just trying to face the day—courage isn’t always easy. But sometimes, the right words can make a huge difference.
In this episode of Lost in Japanglish, we’re talking about the Japanese and English proverbs that give us strength when we need it most.
From the quiet resilience of “Nanakorobi yaoki” (七転び八起き) in Japan—which means “fall down seven times, get up eight”—to Helen Keller’s bold reminder that “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing,” we explore how different cultures talk about courage, and how those words can help us move forward, even when we’re shaking in our boots.
We each brought a few of our favorite proverbs to the table and shared how they’ve helped us in real life—whether we were navigating big life changes or just trying to hit “publish” on a scary idea (hello, YouTube!).
